Donate Your Birthday

What can you do?

First, you need to decide which organization you'll donate your birthday to. Sometimes it's a good idea to have a parent help you contact the organization. They might have certain rules or procedures for accepting donations. Plus, some organizations would rather have specific items than money, so checking first is always a good idea.

Once you know who you're donating to, send out invitations that tell your friends you want them to bring donations, not presents, for your birthday. Hit my "Inviations" link to see an example of what my invitation looked like this year. Be sure to tell your friends the name of the charity and the reason you chose it.

Then, after your party, send the donations to the charity you are donating to. It's a really good idea to deliver any goods yourself. If you ask the charity to make a pick-up, it costs them money. Plus, they love to meet kids who help them out.

That's it. It's that easy. And once your friends see what you accomplished just by donating your birthday, maybe they'll be inspired to do it, too. One of my friends is donating his birthday this year; check out my shout out to Devin!
